Tesla Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas: What we know so far

A Tesla Cybertruck rented by a person in Las Vegas exploded outside of the Trump International Hotel on New Year’s Day, causing injuries and damage. The incident is being investigated as a possible terror attack, similar to an earlier incident in New Orleans where a driver rammed into a crowd and killed at least 10 people. Authorities have found suspected improvised explosive devices in the city, but there does not appear to be any further threat to the community. The Cybertruck had been rented via Turo, a peer-to-peer car-sharing app, and was driven to Las Vegas before exploding at around 8:40 a.m. The vehicle’s bed contained gas tanks, camping fuel, and large firework mortars, which were not yet determined to have caused the explosion. Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has confirmed that the explosion was caused by “fireworks and/or a bomb in the bed of the rented cybertruck.” The incident is being investigated by the FBI through its Joint Terrorism Task Force, with the goal of positively identifying the person who was in the Cybertruck and determining whether it was an act of terrorism.
